Telstra and the Insurance Co’s still upto there old tricks.
Well this weekend (friday) was spent traipsing up to Bright to our now nearly completed holiday house, to firstly get the Phone Line connected by Telstra and to get the wood floor looked at by the builders insurance company.
Isn’t it strange how people, (or company’s for that matter) never do what they promise to do.
We rocked up to the house about 2pm after our 4 1/2 hour drive up from our place to find an apologetic letter and a big cardboard box sitting on the doorstep clearly marked with Telstra.
Upon closer inspection of the package and its contents its use became apparent. Telstra had been unable to connect the phone-line to the house because some wire (about 5m of the stuff) had not been run under the ground from the our properties boundary into the nearest Telstra Junction Box.
This 5m of wire would create a 30 day delay in the connection of the fixed line and the contents of the box was Telstra’s remedy for the delay. In the attached letter they referred to the box as a “Temporary Fixed Line Replacement Service”, which consisted of an Ericsson F221m unit and a standard telstra rental phone.

The F221m is basically a mobile phone on steroids. A mobile phone with a land line number, and the need to draw power from a power-point, as well as a 5m Microwave arial that mounts onto the window.
Now this sounds fine, and for all intensive purposes it is, however a dial-up connection can not be established over the connection due to GSM compression or some crap, so i was stuck up there once-again without any internet connection.
The Second Major annoyance was with the insurance inspector, who just didn’t show up. So in actual fact there was no reason whatsoever for us to traipse up there.
