It Arrived. Finally

Well the UPS arrived friday morning and after a unpacking it from its layers of protective cardboard and plastic i placed it on its vertical stand and proceeded to charge it overnight to ensure that the battery was at full capacity and there would me no measurable memory effect on the units battery.

The next morning i went about reorganizing my wiring closet to accommodate the new gadget. it all fits in quite nicely spread over two shelves.

THe next part was fun: it was the runtime trial where you purposely pull the plug and just keep on surfing the internet until it runs out of juice.

It lasted very well with a total run time of approx. 25mins with a headless P2 firewall, 2 switches, a NB1300 adsl modem and a Minitar 802.11b access point all running from the UPS.

Everything works just fine running from the modified square-wave generated by the units inverter apart from one of my switches, a Skymaster 10/100 8 port unit that does not like the switch over from Mains power to UPS battery and appears to freeze up.

Update: It appears that it was not the switch at fault but the Power-supply and t passing unclean dc on to the unit. after swapping over the power-supply the whole system works perfectly.

Now to just get the dry contact DB9 interface working under linux. getting it to email me upon the power failing.
