Back in time!

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Today it was off to the astor theatre on Chapel Street to see “The Leopard”. A film made in 1963 in Italian by Luchino Visconti set in the 1860’s, its a story of how the modern italy came to be, with the combining of the 3 separate independent country’s into one great italy.

Thanks to Tim for the lift back, it would have been a long journey back to Mt Eliza on the bloody train!

damn! its back to school tomorrow.

New Apple on the Block!

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

The last few days have seen me giving absolutely huge amounts of advice to James after he acquired a new PowerBook (G4 1.5Ghz 15″).

One of the hardest things to do has been migrating all the email and calendar data from Outlook on the PC into the Mac.

This is mainly due to Microsoft’s attempts to lock its current users into there software by only allowing export to Microsoft’s own filetypes and none of the more general inter-compatible filetypes such as Mbox a unix standard.

This issue is compounded by the fact that Microsoft supports many different formats including mbox for import, so they obviously have an idea how the other format files work. How hard would it be for them to write that code for export, it would literally be a reverse of the import code with read’s and write’s reversed.

This annoyance is feit by many fellow mac “Switchers” that have come from windows systems, and is quite likely keeping some people from purchasing their first mac.

I also got a reworking of my hair today, namely a haircut. Its much shorter, so it should last for a little bit longer than my last cut.

I don’t want to end up looking like this guy that was in there while i was, also getting a haircut. The last time he had had his hair cut was the day before his school photo’s at the start of term 1 (about 4 months). It was seriously huge and i wish i had a camera there to get a photo of him for you guy’s to see.

The Chem. Exam..

Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

I might not be posting quite as much as i have been over the next few weeks due to an upcoming Chemistry exam thats worth 30% of my final subject score.

All scary stuff. There’s a course description here. and i want you all to check it out so you can see what ill be going through in the next few weeks.

The actual exam date is Tuseday 8th of June.

Now back to the Studying. Except that its M&D’s Anniversary so were all going out to dinner in a few minutes to “The Rocks”, Mornington.

Catch you all later.

A lot to tell…

Friday: SRC Victorian Conference : I ended up helping to run sessions in the Gym. namely Group Challenges which attempted to better bond the groups together and warm them up with the other schools also involved in the Conference. Then in the afternoon, Last Session i sat in on Stu’s “SRC Initiatives” Class/Discussion. All very interesting stuff, i even managed to create a paper plane from there KRAB key-point sheet, so yea i came away with something at the end of the day.

Then it was off to both Tim & Ade’s 18th celebration where we were treated to a fine audio rendition thanks to the Lawn Chair Mafia. Tim ended up getting a Head unit for the Cressida and Ade’s a phone of some description.

The night was good and most of the usual’s were there as well as some from further afield. All in all it was a good night, however Kinsey still has my last remaining tin of Penguins at the moment so thats a bit of a letdown.

Saturday: Shop Till You Drop : It was interesting going up to Chadstone today after having only a few hours of sleep after Tim’s and after a few hours i began to wonder why i had actually come. It would have been much better an idea to have stayed home to recover, the sushi however was good and made me feel relatively healthy after last night.

BLA…..

CBF ATM. Really Tired. slept for like an hour when i got in today after school and now i feel like i have jet-lag. Saw Roche today and gave him some software he was after.

Ill hopefully have more to say over the weekend after a little sleep.

PS: Office 2004 was released today for the MAC. Its sick. Even has voice record functionality in its note’s mode.

I downloaded the Test Drive version from Microsoft last night.

New Kid on the Block….

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004

SONY have just announced a new camera. Its the DSC-F88. 5mp and with a swivel lens, it even has a carl zeiss lens system.

Mum’s also back and chances are ill be getting a new music device in the next few days, be it an ipod or maybe some studio monitor’s for my home system.

She had a good flight back, only managing to get stuck next to a smelly indian group on the leg from Singapore to Australia. Apparently they were really loud, had bad BO and kept complaining about everything. Not enough Veg meals and the like.

Well it look’s like a POS ATM.

But that will all change once i get some time to get some things together. Im thinking of taking a page from James’s book and designing in Photoshop with images and then porting those images to the web around text.

Your always full of good ideas James.

In other news we had the Tempest Lunch with Dr P today in the Barney Allen center. It was quite good with all of the show’s photo’s on display.

Another english essay tomorrow on Oedipus, so i had better go and do some of that and not play with this site to much.

Catch u all later.

ha ha ha ….. Funny.

Car’s Camera’s and more…

Saturday, May 15th, 2004

Interesting day today. Slept in for the morning while dad got new tires put onto the C240 then around 2pm set off with dad down to Flinder’s to have a look at Peter’s new holiday house. It was cold and we sat outside a 3/4 finished house for around 45 min’s waiting for them to turn up.

I can however say that the new tires Michelin i think, make a difference, there was more traction on the road and overall handling was better.

I really like that car and im trying to convince dad to let me have it when he gets another one instead of trading it in.

In other news mum gets back on tuesday around 4:30am, hopefully with a little something for me. I am also still looking at Digital camera’s and have almost totally convinced my self to get the Canon IXUS 500. Its a 5MP, 36-128F, 2592 x 1944 max image size, little beast.

File’s File’s Everywhere…

Thursday, May 13th, 2004

I have started work on the files section of the site. It is in very infant stages however over the next few weeks it will amount to somthing.

My choice app at the moment is “netcat”, “nc” for short. It is basically a tool that opens direct connections to ports on remote systems via the tcp/ip stack and allows communication free from any protocol information.

It can also act as a server listening for any connections to a specified port. it’s standard behavior in server mode is dump any received output to “/dev/ttyp1″ however this may be redirected to any file or command via the “>” command.

Be warned this app is not for beginners to anything relay. even getting it set up is a hassle, and good luck compiling it on win32.(You may be able to find win32 port, somewhere) Its a source distro only. and was last updated around 1996. However it does everything well and needs no real updates.

Boring.

Tuesday, May 11th, 2004

Not much went on @ school today. There was a Touch Premiership assembly for our Touch team, a modified timetable to allow for the year 10 and 11 Trial Gat and i had a Method’s Sac. Part 7/7.

Today was also the first time i saw anything of this years year 8 play (what’s it called), and managed to have a bit of a catch up with John Headlam an old teacher from Newlands Yr5 beyond.

I also spent a large part of today looking at camera’s on ebay. The Canon ixus 500 seems to have caught my eye. It can be found for around $550 on ebay, most likely imported from HK or Tokyo.

Digital Camera’s and OS X

Sunday, May 9th, 2004

I spent today reinstalling OS X on my iBook and looking at digital camera’s.

Canon seem to have a few nice lower-end models, below around $600 and if anyone wants to sugest any other models or makes, please do so.

Canon Models Here.

It’s Over for 2004.

Saturday, May 8th, 2004

Last night was the final performance of the 2004 HPAD play “The Tempest”. It went well last night and the cast and crew were all in good spirit and full of energy which was obvious throughout the night.

Presentations to Staff and the Drama Department were made in D1 in record time and everyone changed into more suitable attire for the evening of the after-party.

The Fucking Party Bus Company lost the booking that Liv had made earlier in the week, saying that she had just made an inquiry regarding a bus. WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT. Anyway, the bus arrived and we set off on an insane journey out to Upper Beakonsfield (Berwick).

The night was a Big Hit and thanks goes to Toby and his folks for a great venue and letting us all get wasted and then crash the night.

Also a big thanks goes out to Jando, Roche and all the cast and crew involved in “The Tempest” for the great community spirit.

Im really dead tonight and James, if i did manage to leave a message on your phone last night please please just ignore it.

Thats all from me for now. catch u all later.

Thankyou BurtonHosting.

There support is just amazing. Especially seeing as they are based in the UK, whenever i need support they are there to help due to time time-zones.

I sent them an email regarding the missing rows in the MySQL Database and after taking with one support guy “Mark” i was handed over to their Systems engineer “Matthew” who did a dump of my database from a backup and emailed me the raw mysql insert lines that were missing.

All fixed in under 4 hours. There support is just out of this world. None of this auto-responder crap then nothing for 2 days (Hint Hint Netspace).

I fully recommend them as a great web host. BurtonHosting

In other news I managed to fix my Stuck CD-Drive by booting into Open-FIrmware and resetting the drives default settings. Open firmware is similar to a BIOS except that it is editable in every sense. To boot into open firmware hold down these 4 keys [Option, Apple, O and F].

Hmm interesting. Thank’s MySQL.

Tuesday, May 4th, 2004

i made a large post re a number of things yesterday only o have it dumped from the MySQL database due to what appears to have been a software error, server side.

From now on i will be maintaining backups of all posts and comments on a remote server.

you didn’t really miss all that much anyway. just me telling you about my ibook’s stupid slot load cd-rom drive and how it wont eject cd’s anymore and a cool pasta recipy that i made up for dinner last night.

It was a chicken and tomato based stir through sauce with fresh egg pasta. Really nice.

Slot Load Nightmare.

Monday, May 3rd, 2004

Today was not all that Eventful, that is until i got onto the bus on my way home. tom showed me a request adsl modem Request-501R. there was a cd that came with it and all was going well at this point. So i loaded it into my ibooks CD-Rom Drive and waited for it to mount.

Everything was still going well and the modem seamed to have heaps of features.

about 1/2 way along the freeway i decided that i had had enough of the modems manual and tried to unmount the drive. the machine unmounted it in the software but refused to eject the actual physical disk from the slot.

Big problems.

Once i got home i tried to remove it from the drive and succeeded by pressing the eject key and shaking the ibook do that the slot faced down.

Now however, every CD that i insert into the drive gets stuck. Its very annoying and hopefully i will get it fixed up on thursday or friday.

In other news i created a new pasta dish tonight.

It consists of a nice thick homemade tomato sauce and thin shreds of chicken mixed together with some really nice fresh egg pasta.

If anyone is interested in more details re this dish Please send $4.95 to me. Only jokeing, just send me an email or apprehend me next time you see me and ask for some more details.

Dreamweaver MX 2004 Update.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2004

I have just installed Dreamweaver’s mac update 7.0.1 and things are running a hell of a lot better. Its Ram usage has been reduced back to normal usage levels and CPU usage does not remain @ 20-30% while idle in the background.

I would almost go as far as to say that macromedia shipped the original OSX version with all there debug code still compiled into the binary.

to anyone out there is still running the original version of Dreamweaver on OSX I suggest that you update your software today.

Once again, The Tempest.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2004

Last night went well, with the audience getting into the theme of the show, and reportedly thoroughly enjoying the evening(Even if it was bloody cold).

A big thanks to Laura for ferrying me up and back and to liv for a place to crash for the night.

Today is going to be one big catchup on homework day.
